William Charles Lynch Ireland to America 1720

William Charles Lynch was born c. 1705 in Ireland. The family story is that he had run away from his home in Ireland, and made arrangements with a Captain to board a ship. Some years later, in about 1720, he arrived in America. For the sum of the Atlantic passage he was apprenticed to the wealthy Quaker, and planter, Captain Christopher Clark, of Louisa County,Va. Captain Clark took a personal interest in his young charge, and even helped him to receive a education. His son,Micajah Clark, taught him law, and found him to be a apt pupil. William Charles Lynch married Sarah, the daughter of Christopher Clark, and his wife Penelope Bolling Clark. He died in 1753 in Albemarle County, Va. His wife Sarah married 2nd Dec 17, 1766 John Word (or Ward).
The children of William Charles Lynch and his wife, Sarah Clark were:
1) Judith b c. 1722 d. 1800 md Henry Hardin (1710-1796)
2) William Charles, Jr. b. c. 1736 Albermarle Co, Va and died October 29, 1796 Campbell, Va md c. 1755 Anna Terrell b. September 15, 1740 Caroline Co, Va. (Her second husband)
3)Sarah b. c. 1738 md Feb 10,1754 Caroline Co, Va Michajah Chiles Terrell
4) John b. 1740 (Lynchburg,Va was named for him).
5) Charles b. 1736 d. Oct 29, 1796. He was born at "Chestnut Hill" his father's estate md Jan 12,1755 Ann Terrell. A member of the House of Burgesses. The term Lynch Law" derived from Lynch's court when conspiratures (Loyalist) were hung when general court was not in session. (Bedford Co, Va).
