Mike:
I don't know if I am decescended from any of the Lynchburg lynches of not, my family, having been in greenbriar county (now WVA) prior to the Civil War.The whereabouts and movements of the Lynch family of cambell county and Lynchburg Va, (being not overly documented) has held intriging possibilities in my own geneological research.
One part of that Lynch family, The Lynch-Terrells does, however appear to be well researched.Have you been to AVOCA in Altavista, a town in the southern part of campbell county? That was the home of Charles Lynch and the famous "lynch Tree" where the tories were whipped until they would cry "liberty forever".
Anyway, the history of the Lynch-Terrells are to be found in detail at Avoca, which now is Museum to that history, open, I believe, till 5pm mon-fridays.
One of the Terrills from Avoca, was a famous artillary officer in the civil war, who fell in had to hand combat defending a bridge during lee's retreat to appomatox.
I have Avoca's address somewhere, but don't know exactly where I put it at this moment.
good luck in your search and feel free to post additional info..
Sincerly, george Lynch.
