McHenry County is in North Dakota.
James H. and Ida Louise (Secord) McCombs
James H. McCombs, son of Joseph and Myra Lymburner Weingarten McCombs was born January 21, 1857 in Burford, Ontario, Canada.Ida Louisa Secord, daughter of David and Sarah Zimmerman Secord, was born February 3, 1857 in New Durham.Their children all born in Canada were Cora, born in 1882 married Jack Green, died 1928; Evelyn born 1883, married Charles Chamberlain, died in 1967; Henry and Harold, twins (Henry died in infancy) born in 1884, Harold married Anna Deming, died 1943; William born 1885, married Thora Solberg, died 1974; Edna born 1886, married James Willits, died 1979; Joseph Lloyd born 1891, married Hertha Schilling died 1982.
In 1892 the family arrived in McHenry County from Canada and lived on the James Lymburner ranch north of Towner for a time.Later they lived on the James Knutson ranch west of the river.Mr. McCombs homesteaded in Section 13 of what is now Wagar Township in 1900.He bought more land and they remained on the farm the rest of their lives.
James was elected County Commissioner in 1904 and served several terms.His name is on the cornerstone of the McHenry County Courthouse at Towner, built in 1907.
Mr. McCombs and his three married sons were in partnership and owned fouteen quarter-sections of land.They dissolved partnership in 1943 shortly before the death of Harold McCombs.
Ida died in 1941 and James in 1944.
