I have been searching for Buck Lyman in the period from 1860-1881. He was an older brother of my great-grandfather, Arza Brown Lyman. Buck was born on 11 Jun 1848 in Marion County, IA, the son of Horace M. Lyman and Lucy Clemons. He died on 17 Feb 1881 in Leadville, Colorado, and is buried in the Marysville Cemetery, Marysville, Marion County, IA. http://iowagravestones.org/gs_view.php?id=20799
I have searched the 1870 and 1880 Federal Censuses every way I can think of and have never found him. I think he may have been a miner, so it would make sense that he might have been in the California foothills sometime during this period. Later, his father had an interest in a gold mine called the Lucy L. in Lake County, Colorado.
Iíve found the following in the 1870 Federal Census for California:
W.T.Rumble was living in Millerton P.O., Township 1, Fresno County, CA. He was living alone, 43 years old, born in England and listed as a laborer.
Mary E. Butler was living in Kings River P.O. Township 3, Fresno County, CA. She was 16 years old, born in Arkansas, the daughter of Israel S. Butler, born abt. 1833 in Indiana. I donít know if she was the Mollie L. Butler who married Buck Lyman.
If anyone has any further information about these people or know of any data bases that might be pertinent, Iíd certainly love to hear from you.
