I am looking for more information and the location of the boarding school opened by Jerusha Lyman and her sister(s) in Philadelphia about 1812 or 1813. Their father was General William Lyman, U.S. consul in London during the Madison administration. A brief note I found mentions there were five daughters who opened the school after his death in England.
They were originally from Northhampton, Massachusetts.
There is a mention of Catherine Lyman and her sister operating a Miss Lyman's School at 226 S. Broad Street in Philadelphia in the late 1850's, but I believe Jerusha may have opened her school in the Society Hill area of Philadelphia, probably about 1813-1816.
Any information on the location or years of operating or Jerusha, the daughter, would be helpful.
I do know that she married Jackson Kemper, a minister in 1816, who later became a bishop in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, she died two years later.
They apparently set up housekeeping in the old house of Dr. Benjamin Rush, Philadelphia, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He died about 1813.
