I am organizing an extensive collection of papers from the Biddle family of Philadelphia. These include a letter from the then Secretary of state James Madison to William Lyman appointing him Consul to London and giving him specific instructions about his duties and compensation dated January 22, 1805. The collection also includes letters from William Lyman to his son William Lyman Junior in 1803. In the course of my research, I found the "Catalog of the Memorial Exhibition of Portraits by Thomas Sully", Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 1922 on Google books. It includes a portrait of Mrs. John Cox, nee Martha Lyman, daughter of General William Lyman (1755-1811) as catalog #166. I have yet to find more information about William Lyman Junior or his other siblings, and links to explain how they are related to the Biddles. I know they are because William Lyman Biddle was born 10/8/1854 and died 7/4/1920 and William Lyman's letters are in the family paper collection.

I hope this of of some help to you.
