1850 Newberry Co., SC census John B. Lyles 34 m farmer $4,000 SC R 25 f John L 5 m Taylor 3 m M.E.K. 1 f Mary 60 f SC G. W. 21 m Overseer Can anyone tell me whether or not this Mary is the widow of George Washington "Wash" Lyles b. 1775-1785 in Fairfield Co., SC? Wash died ca. 1821 in Richland Co., SC. His family were taken in by family members. My g-g-gm Margaret Lyles would have been 7 in 1821. I do not have the names of her siblings, but I have heard that Wash's family moved to Georgia in 1847 with other family members. On the 1850 Dooly Co., GA census, Margaret's last child was born in 1847 in South Carolina. One of Margaret's (her second son) sons was named George Washington (Edmondson). Also, my mother, who lived to be 92, told me that one set of my ancesteral grandparents was Big Bill and Elizer. I have since come to know that the last name that she did not know was that of William "Big Bill" Lyles and his wife Elizabeth Ward. Big Bill was Wash's father. Does anyone have a list of children for Wash? My grandmother named her eldest child George Monroe. If anyone has a clue for me, I would appreciate it very much. Please respond to hulljulia@yahoo.com.
