Hi, Charleen, it looks as if you're nearly the only one researching the LUY family, so that makes you the expert! I'm trying to put your various messages together. Is this correct?

Michael SCHULER (ca. 1836, Trier, Rheinland - _ ) m. ca. 1864, Elizabeth LUY (ca. 1839, Trier - _).

On the 1880 Census, they were SCHOLAR,
Michael, 44, saloon keeper
Lizzie [Elizabeth], 41
ch. b. IL: Lizzie [Elizabeth], 15
Mary [later m. ESSLINS?], 12
Annie [Anna], 10
John, 8
Peter [Peter Lawrence?], 6
Tena, 4 [Christina?]
Joseph, 2
father Peter SCHOLAR, 75. He, Michael, Elizabeth, & parents all b. Prussia.

You said you have death certificates for girls in the above family, but I couldn't find that information or their married names on your postings. Was Helena born after the census? I see that you have John LUY [b. ca. 1810], Elizabeth LUY, & her husband's death certificates stating all were born in Trier {translated from Treves / Traves}. Do you have the dates and places of those deaths?

FamilySearch database, 1880, Roselle, Carroll, IA: LUY, Wm., 30; wf. Mary, 31; ch. Kathy, 2; John, 1; father John, 70; bro. John, 24; all births in Prussia.

FamilySearch has Joannes {John} LUY, bpt. 12 Oct. 1811, Catholic, Kanzem, Rheinland, s/o Joannis LUY & Mariae SCHAFHAUSEN. Could that be the father? That would place his birth about midway between the age of 70 above and the Joh. Peter LUY, 66, on the Germans to America Passenger List on the "Vaderland" from Antwerp to Philadelphia, arr. 12 Je. 1879.

However, I'm now confused about the "uncle" listed on another list. The family on the "Vaderland," 1879, has to be the same as in Roselle, IA, 1880, because the names match. Petronela LUY, 20 in 1879, was 17 in 1880, in household of Matheas STEFFIS, 30, IL [probably Mathias STEFFES].

In 1880, Roselle, they were near BROICH, Henry, 45; wf. Gerdrud, 42; dau. Cristina, 15, preceding all b. Prussia; dau. Helena, 11, on Atlantic; b. WI: Reinhart, 8; Mary, 6; Sibila, 3; & b. IA: Anna, 1. --Those might be another BRECH family. The one the other lady is researching was already in Twp. 100, Hutchinson Co., Dakota: BRECH, John, 62; wf. Elizabeth [LUY, d/o Nikolai/Nikolas], 58; son Peter, 13; & "others," Charles, 28, & Theodore, 21. All births in Prussia.

Also, 1880, Roselle, IA: LUY, Michael, 40; wf. Lucia, 35; 2 ch. b. IL: Leo, 9; John, 7; two ch. b. IA: Adolf, 3; & Lucia, one mo.

FamilySearch has William LUY (14 Je. 1849, Germany - 9 Mar. 1931, Uniontown, Whitman, WA; s/o John Peter LUY & Elizabeth WAGNER) m. 1875, Germany, Mary Ann FUNK (ca. 1849 - 28 Je. 1926, Uniontown, WA). Could that be the one on the passenger list & census?

I suppose you've already posted more information already, but I'd like to clarify the family groups. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
