Hi there, I was just doing some closet cleaning when I came upon a bunch of old postcards that have been saved, for some reason, in my family. I have never studied my geneaology, so I'll give you the information that I have, and if someone knows of any connections, I'd sure appreciate the insight! My paternal great-grandfather was Nicholas Franzen, whose parents were born in Luxembourg - or that is my understanding. He raised his own famiy of 4 boys in Aurora, Illinois, where there is a rather large Luxembourger population - Victor, Pete, Matthew, and the 4th uncle's name escapes me. Victor was my paternal grandfather - deceased 1993, resident of Park Falls, WI at his death. He was married his whole life to Virginia Stegmann, also of Aurora. I am unsure of my great-grandfather's name, but her mother's name was Emma. Anyhow, I found this large assortment of postcards with dates from: 1909, 1912 and so forth to a Master Henry Evans and Alice - who I believe might have been his mother? Some of the cards are written in German, some I believe are a French/German mix and many are in English. The address referenced is 283 Evans Avenue in Aurora, Illinois. The senders' names are often very generic (Aunt Sue Louise, Paul, Grandpa, etc.), but there is an Easter postcard from a William Hansen (1912) and one from a Mrs. Springer (1908). There is one card from an Anna Sch....? that was sent in 1914 to a Mrs. Henry Frantzen (our last name never carried the trademark "t" but was often misspelled). But Henry's last name was previously Evans?? And now the address is on North Broadway in Aurora and in c/o my great-grandfather Nick Franzen. So I'm very unsure of where these postcards came from and my relationship, if any, to Henry Evans (Frantzen??). The reason this has become so interesting to me is that I had a son last spring...and I named him Henry!! Completely unaware of any familial connections to the name. Anyone who might have any insight, I'd appreciate it greatly! Thanks much, Kimmberli (Franzen) Ahasic Notify Administrator about this message?
