Hi John - Thank you again for offering to answer my questions about Biwer. It's very much appreciated. Hopefully I won't be too bothersome. My research tells me that Biwer is in the Canton of Grevenmacher, in the country of Luxembourg. Cantons are similar to our states, correct? So where I live in Brighton, Michigan, USA ... my great great grandfather came from Biwer, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg. Do I have that analogy correct? How would you describe Biwer, now and historically? What are the people like? What's important to them? How do they make a living? What do they do for fun? What is the political climate? The U.S. documents for my great great grandfather all spell our name "Kirbach." (Francis Kirbach, date of birth Dec 15, 1847, year of emigration 1866.) Does that appear to be a correct spelling? A Genforum response also gave me the possibility of "Kirbag." Does one name ring more correct than the other, coming from Biwer? The Genforum response was: In a brochure published by the music band of Biwer on the occasion of the acquisition of a new banner (22 May 1955) there is an article by Father Alphonse Theisen "Nach Amerika ausgewanderte Einwohner der Pfarrei Biwer" listing the inhabitants of the parish of Biwer who emigrated to America. Among them are # 52 Kirbag John, who emigrated in 1857 # 113 Kirbag Francis, who emigrated in 1866. I very much would like to find more details about Francis, including who his parents were. Do you have any suggestions of where I could write or e-mail for copies of birth, marriage and death records? Emigration records? I found the following address for the city hall, but I also read that the parishes may have more information with regard to birth records. Commune de Biwer 8, Kiirchestrooss L-6834 Biwer Luxembourg Well, I've probably asked you enough questions for now. :-) Thank you again for any information you're willing to share with me. Take care, Cathy Kirbach Notify Administrator about this message?
