Matt KOMMER, came to the USA in 1882. He apparently settled first in Grant County, South Dakota, in Alban Township. He married a woman named Bertha in about 1882. They had 5 sons: Elmer, John, Frederick, Alfred and William. Bertha died between 1900 and 1907.
In about 1907, Matt remarried with a woman name Paulina, who was a widow with two teenage daughters, plus one other child not living with the family. In the 1910 US census, the family is stil in Grant County, South Dakota, living in Vernon Twsp. They list two daughters, Hattie, age 15 and Annie age 13; plus five sons, Elmer, John, Fred, Alfred and Willie.
In 1918 Matt registered as an alien in the 1918 Alien Registration forms. He was then living in Minnesota, in Benton County, St. George Township. He gives the following information about his life: He was born 17 March 1865 in "Ranish" Luxembourg. He arrived in New York in September 1876. (The 1900 census says he arrived in 1882, but the 1920 census says he arrived in 1876).
Mathias Kommer died in Stearns County, Minnesota on 19 Feb. 1925.
Can anyone clarify the correct village in Luxembourg?
