Georgia - Thank you for the suggestion of the St. Thomas library. I was not aware of the resources available so close to me. At one time I lived about 8 blocks south and 2 blocks west of the SW corner of the campus, so I should be able to find everything. I hope the records may yeild some additional family information in addition to the usual birth, death and marriage dates. I have most of Frederick Schumacher's ancestors back to about 1560-1600 and want to fill in the personal details. I always keep as much information as possible on siblings, etc., so I may find some common names as witnesses and hopefully some church names. The hand written records will be a challenge, but much will depend on the quality of the scans/photographs. After years of going through Norwegian and Swedish records of the same period, I recognize it will just take some time to become familiar with the script and general terms. I had some correspondence revealing that Frederick's birthplace/home in Hüttermühle was still standing, but did not get the actual location. Twice I had a car and driver/translator for two days, but could not take advantage of the last minute offer because I did not do my homework in advance and other reasons made it sensible to pass on the offer. I want to be more prepared this time and bring along my old photos from his records. I think I have photos of his sister and husband (Jean Pierre Sibenaler) taken by photographer from Mondorf in about 1905. So far, I have not found any members of the family that immigrated to the U.S., but I am sure there are some if I track his ancestor's descendents. Notify Administrator about this message?
