Hi Tom,
maybe the LUTZ`s around Tuebingen are related to each other.
The oldest church-documents are from about the mid to the end of the 16th century (about 1570 a.d.) after the reformation. Older records from the former catholic time do not exist, if they ever had. The first recorded LUTZ in Ofterdingen is Hans LUZ (older writing way), first mentioned in the baptism-book 1572, he must have been born before about 1565. Where he did come from, nobody knows, maybe his earlier ancestors are also from Ofterdingen. The name LUTZ is very customary in South-Germany.
What are the names of your related families from the (very) old province of Hohenzollern and how are the names of the villages? In the www you will find under more information about the history of Hohenzollern.
Greetings from Manfred Lutz
