Hello Tammy,
You and I have communicated before about our Combest connections.Good to talk to you again.I realize that your message is from 2001 and here it is 2005, but maybe the following is still helpful.
My great-grandfather is George Washington Combest, born Dec 25, 1867 in Casey Co., KY.He rode to TX on horseback with a cousing as a teenager and worked as a ranchhand at various ranches in central and south TX.
George m1. Annie Lee Luttrell, born June 3, 1874 and died August 5, 1894.She is buried as Annie Lee Combest in a small cemetery in Williamson Co., Texas (just north of Austin).I actually was able to locate her grave a couple of years ago after communicating with one of her distant relatives through her mother.I took pictures of the gravesite but lost the disposable camera!I can't believe that I did all that travel, etc, only to lose the evidence.
Anyway, George and Annie had two daughters before her untimely death:
Ollie May Combest b. June 28, 1892d. 1985 in CA
Maybelle Combestb. January 4, 1894 d. 1972 in Bronte, TX
My understanding is that the two baby girls were raised by their maternal grandparents in the Bronte, TX area since a single father working as a ranchhand was not expected to care for babies. My father, who was a half-nephew of the baby girls, remembers them as women who visited their father, stepmother and 1/2 siblings in central TX.
I do not know any thing of Annie's parents.
Geoge Washington Combest's parents were Fountain Combest and Mary Williams Chilton, born and died in KY.The Combest lineage is traced back quite further, but you may know that by now.
The widowed George Washington Combest later married Sarah "Sallie" Jane Sharp and had five more children. This is from where I descend.I was named for my great-grandmother as Sally Combest.
