Michael Luttrell was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, in October. 1751.
The Luttrell families of Fauquier County and Michael's father, mother, brothers and sisters are described above, under Nathan Luttrell's story.
MICHAEL LUTTRELL IS CALLED TO THE ARMY:
Michael Luttrell was drafted to serve three months in the United States Army in February "before Cornwallis was taken", in 1781. He was in Captain George Shelton's Company in Colonel Billy Churchill's Regiment of Virginia Militia. This Regiment immediately marched to Williamsburg, Virginia. Their duty was to guard the sea coast. The purpose was to support General George Washington in his plan of battle against the British Army of Lord Cornwallis. A large British force landed about five miles from the Regiment's position. Colonel Billy Churchill received orders to retreat to Jamestown. They stayed there a short time and moved on to Richmond, Virginia. By then, Michael Luttrell had served about three weeks more than the three months draft. His time had expired. He was discharged and traveled home to Fauquier County, Virginia, and his family.
The same year, in the fall of 1781, Michael Luttrell was drafted for another three month duty with the United States Army. General Washington was getting his forces ready for the final blow against the British southern army of Lord Cornwallis.
Michael was drafted at Williamsburg, VA. He was in Captain Thomas Helm's Company of Major John Chun's Battallion. About three weeks later, General Washington's Army arrived. Michael Luttrell's unit marched to York with this Army. General Washington's strategy forced Lord Cornwallis to surrender his army at Yorktown on the 17th of October, 1781. So Michael was there, serving with the regular army, during the crucial days of battle preceding Lord Cornwallis' surrender. He knew General Wayne and General Greene, both of whom we have met in this history.
The entire British Army of Lord Cornwallis laid down arms. Each British soldier was a prisoner-of-war. Michael Luttrell and his unit marched to Bartlett Barracks, Pennsylvania. There they guarded about 500 enemy prisoners. At that time, Michael had served three months and thirteen days. He was again discharged. Michael Luttrell returned to Fauquier County and to his family.
MICHAEL LUTTRELL LEAVES FAUQUIER COUNTY:
Michael Luttrell, Sr., the father of Nathan, Michael and ten other children, died in 1777 or 1778. His will was recorded 16th March 1778 and probated 24th August 1778. Michael Luttrell, Jr., and five of his brothers and sisters left Fauquier County, Virginia and moved to Henry County, Virginia. Were there too many heirs to too little land?
On 18th May 1787, Michael Litrul appears on the tax rolls of Henry County, Virginia. Michael was charged with the tax. There were no males listed from 16 to 25 years of age, there were no blacks. He was taxed for one horse and himself.
On 7th December 1787, Michael Littrell bought 80 acres of land fro 20L from John Preston. Nathan Littrell witnessed the deed.
Michael Luttrell moved from Henry County, Virginia to Green County, Kentucky. The 1800 census of Green County, Kentucky lists Michael Litral. Also appearing in the census were Richard, Jesse and John Littral.
Michael Luttrell resided in Jackson County, Alabama, in 1822. When he moved there with his brother Nathan has not been determined. While there, his residence burned and his papers, including his army discharges, were destroyed.
Michael Luttrell moved to Marion County, Illinois, exact date not determined. In the 1830 census of Illinois, Michael Litrell is listed, his family at that time, shows: Males 1 age under 5; 1 age 20 to 30; 1 age 70 to 80. Females 1 under 5; 1 age 15 to 20.
Also in the 1830 Illinois census are: Thomas Litrell; Nathaniel Litrell; William Litrell and John Lutrell, in Marion County, Illinois. It seems that Thomas and William Litrell are Michael's sons. Lot Litterl, Michael's youngest brother, is shown, in Morgan County, Illinois, in 1830.
Michael Lutterell applied for revolutionary War pension on 24th March 1834. His application, number S32021 was approved, in the amount of $20.00 per annum. Beginning 4th March 1831. He received $70.00 in back pay for 1831 to 1834.

Michael Luttrell died December 19, 1844, in Marion county, Illinois at age of 93 years, 2 months and ? days. He is buried in the Haddon Cemetery, near Iuka, Illinois. His surviving children were: Thomas, James, Alfred and William Lutterell and Nancy Matterly. Their places of residence are not definitely known but they made a affidavit in Marion County. His wife did not survive him. Her name is not given.

Michael was about thirty years old and reported to have married a Miss Shelton.
