Amanda (Luther) Earle RI/MA (1823-1859)

My ggg-grandfather, Edward Clarence Briggs (b. 12 May 1845 Somerset, MA; d. 16 Apr 1917 North Easton, MA) was born to Amanda Miller Luther (4 Mar 1823 RI; d. cir 1859) and James M. Briggs(8 Jun 1822 Burrillville, RI; d. 17 Apr 1899 Brockton, MA). The two were never married.

Amanda M. Luther appears with Edward C. Briggs in the 1850 census of Swansea, MA. They are living in the home of Lilly and Susan S. Gifford.

Amanda married John C. Earle in April 1851. Also appearing in the Gifford home in 1850 (in Swansea, MA) is a John Earl, age 1 year. Perhaps Amanda and John C. had a child before they married? There was another child in the household Margaret Lee, age 9.

Please let me know if any of this makes sense to anyone. Thank you,

Erik Nolan
