Hi,
I have recently been given information that links Oliver P. Luther to Sarah J. Emerson (granddaughter of James Emerson, the Regulator). Sarah Jane Emerson (b. abt 1836) is the daughter of Aaron Emerson and Rosanna Dowd.
The marriage of Sarah Jane Emerson is reported in the May 5, 1859 edition of the Bibical Recorder, a Baptist newspaper which is available at Wake Forest University library. There was a marriage contract between Oliver and Sarah Jane Emerson which is recorded in Chatham County, NC Deed Book Al, page 150. The Bibical Recorder identifies him as Dr. O. P. Luther. Oliver and Sarah are found on an 1860 FL census, his occupation is Dentist. Sarah may have gone by "Lattie".
It is possible that Wiley Frank(lin) Luther is Oliver's brother. In a 1900 FL census, Oliver and Sarah's son, John D. Luther is found with Wiley Frank Luther listed as his uncle. Pension papers for Wiley Luther are witnessed by John D. Luther and wife Mattie of FL.
Also, some of Oliver and Sarah's children migrated to TN with the Emerson family, my Franklin S. Luther being one of them.
I have not found Oliver's parents, but on the census data, it states they are both born in NC. I did not find anything on the Pension papers for Wiley as to who his parents were, but his dob is 07 Jan 1836, Montgomery NC.
In the Biblical Reporter of NC, I found Oliver Luther mentioned from these dates: 3-28-1846 to 7-12-1860. Oliver and Sarah are found in the 1860 census in FL with first son William born in 1860.
Other Luther's mentioned in the Biblical Reporter are: H.L. Luther, Jeremiah Luther, Mary A. Luther, J. Luther, and J.H. Luther. I can't help but think at least one of these Luthers are related or connected to Oliver.
I wish there was another Luther out there looking for Oliver's parents, or at least his children and their descendents. Again, their children all born in Lake City, Columbia FL are:

OLIVER P. LUTHER, b. Abt. 1866
