Samuel Lusk Jr- Escapes Indians
Samuel Lusk Jr. of Tazewell Co., VA
On 24 July 1792 was captured by Indians and taken to Chillicothe, Ohio.
Finally found souce of an "escape version" on how Samuel excaped Indians..."A HISTORY OF THE MIDDLE NEW RIVER SETTLEMENTS & CONTIGUOUS TERRITORY"...by David E. Johnston, 1906.//In this "version" it's stated that Samuel joined another captured woman named Virginia Wiley and she joined him when he did escape.Story tells of route and when they seperated, etc.
Why I don't believe this "version" of escape. In Samuel Lusks Jr. own military pension records he details his capture by Indians...and details his version of escape.
His version, he's alone, he travels north into Canada and re-enters into Buffalo, NY then travels back to VA.
I have researched all the tiny details of Samuel's version, (too many to list ) and all his details were correct.Example: he claimed to cross from Canada to Buffalo on a ferry boat...I traveled to Canada, found the exact Ferry Boat crossing that he used, it's was there when he said it was.
Why is there this seperate "version" of his escape, I don't know..but I tend to believe Samuel Lusk's own personal version written by him.
