John Lusk 10/29/10
Hi John,
Juan Lusk (John) as noted in the records, obtained a Spanish Grant of land along the Homochitto River South of Natchez and near the Miss. River in about 1778.John came over from the family home in NC and would later be joined by his brother, Samuel. They farmed and later operated a ferry across the river. There were a number of sons who would later disburse in Miss.
The only way to know if this is your line is by a DNA test or positive historical record. While there are many Lusk families in Miss. there are other Lusk lines that could have established themselves in Miss. at a later time.
Common names in my early line are John, Samuel, Ely, William and Joseph. The family arrived in Philadelphia some time about 1710 and settled briefly in Chester County. From there they moved to Augusta County, VA settling along the James River and then further disbursed to the Salisbury, NC area.
Salisbury was the original home of John and Samuel.John moved early while Samuel fought the British in South Carolina (Cowpens)and then, some ten years later joined John along the Homochitto.
I hope this helps you in some small way.
Gil
