Hi Cjay,
I regret to say that though I'm descended from three successive Robert LUSKs none of them had a brother Andrew so I can't help in that respect.
My particular Greenock Robert (1755 -1847) was described in various ways through his life events. In 1789 at the time of his marriage he was described as a 'shipmaster' but soon started acquiring property in Greenock. In 1815 when he bought a feu of land in the old Parish of Greenock he was described as a 'merchant in Greenock' and when he died his will, which had been written several years earlier, described him as a 'shipmaster residing in Greenock'.
I've had a look through the various Roberts and Andrews in our Lusk One-name data base and can't readily pick out the people to whom you refer.I doubt that we are connected but I'd be pleased to try to help if youhad any more information than simply "opening a wholesale business in Greenock" in 1833. You could email me at [email protected] if I can be of any more help. You'd be astonished how many Robert LUSKs there were in Scotland around the time in which you are interested. Not so many Andrews though.
Such a shame that no one has answered my question about Baidland.
Jan.
