Update on the Lusk DNA Project
Thus far we have been able to test 16 male Lusk's and have begun to define three Lusk lines here in the US.Of course there should be more lines as we have more tests taken.
We have the Philadelphia line which begins with Joseph Lusk born ca 1655 in Belfast with his children arriving in the colonies sometime around 1710.This line continues on to Augusta CO. Virginia, NC, MS, and elsewhere.
Then there is the Connecticut line beginning here in the colonies with Stephen Lusk in 1715. Two tests just returned from New Zealand from Lusk families that migrated to NZ from Scotland about 1849 perfectly match a descendent of Stephen Lusk. The descendent of Stephen is upgrading his test to 37 markers and we will know shortly just how far back they all shared a common ancestor. This line was well documented by Alma Lusk in the early 20th Century.
The third line is just being developed and they do not share a common haplogroup with the two lines above. While the two lines above are haplogroup R1b1c this new line is R1a.The third Lusk line began in Southern Russia and probably came to Scotland as Vikings. The other two lines began in Spain and Southern France and came to Scotland either from Friesia after the last great Ice Age or directly from Spain or France over the land bridge during that Ice Age.They would be classified as Celts. If interested in the haplogroups you can Google both numbers above for information.
As this project moves forward we will be looking for more male Lusk's from the US to better define genealogical lines as well as Lusk's from Ireland, Scotland and England.
My interest in this project is both genealogical and anthropological as you can see from the above. Please feel free to contact me if you have any interest.
Thanks for listening.
