T^hanks for some interesting thoughts. I found Eugenia Dunn and James Dunn in the 1880 census, but never even thought she may have been the one who married Samuel Burton at a later date. Even more interesting is the thought that Berta may be the child of James and Eugenia, not Samuel Burton and Eugenia. If that is the case, it would explain why Berta is not listed as one of samuel Burton's children.
I also found Samuel Burton on the 1880 census and wondered what he was doing in Denton, TX when he should have been with Eugenia Dunn in Whitt, TX. It is logical he may not have married till some date after 1880.
You have certainly up some new avenues to explore and I appreciate your help very much.

Bill
