Angie I tried to email you directly with some additional information but it bounced back to me... here is what I said:
I have been off line for the last year and just came back on within the last few days and decided to recheck some of the genealogy searches I had made... I saw your message on the genforum in reply to my Lucetta Lusk who had three sons by John G. Barker. One of the sons was named Maurice L. Barker. This is very interesting that you have a Morris Lusk. When I did my research in Washington D.C. at the
National Archives I searched for Maurice's Civil War records on two separate occasions. Once all I found was listed under Morris/Moses Barker. It was only attendance records giving little information. Next year I went and looked for the pension records and came upon a great bounty of information. His records were under Morris Barker,
but his final paperwork listed his given name as Maurice. He had lied about how old he was when he enlisted at age 15. This accounted for the attendance records listing him as 18 for three years in a row. There was almost an inch of information in this file. Letters in his own hand. Morris was born 1848 in Newark, Niagara Co., N.Y. and he
died in 1921 in Quincy Illinois at the Old Sailor and Soldiers home there. He had been taken in by Stephen and Esther Dunwell in Bainbridge Ohio when Lucetta his mother died in 1855. The three boys Charles R., Roger and Maurice were listed under her name Lucetta Lusk on the 1850 census for Niagara County, NY. She was listed as being born in 1814 in Ireland. She had married a man by the name of Harold Rose and died in Harland NY shortly afterwards. Roger died in infancy. I haven't researched Charles Barker's information but did learn he went on to Chicago and worked for the Postal Service there when he died. Morris Barker is listed on the 1900 census records as
living with his wife Ella E. VanNorman Barker at 6607 Lafayette Ave. in Chicago Illinois and he was working for the railroad. I hadn't found any proof but I often wondered if Morris' middle name was Lusk. Leslie Thomas
