Just trying to help.
Were you able to find your Lumsden's in the census for Richmond, Va,for 1880 and 1900..?
I believe I found them in the above census.
Acc to census 1900 they arrived in the USA in 1873.
You never mentioned any children.
Did they have children=
+ about three others?
Did James b.1879 marry a Cora?
Did George b 1876 marry a Bessie?

I think that your William Lumsden born Dec, 1844 in Berse, Aberdeenshire, Sct, was the son of William and Margaret <nee Harper>Lumsden, who married 26th April,1835 in Berse, Aberdeen, Sct.

Have saved my findings and can email.
