Hello all!
For the last 18 years I have been searching for info on John Lumsden whom I thought migrated to Detroit Michigan and had several children. Recently I have discovered that I have been researching the wrong John Lumsden. I am looking for John Lumsden who appears on the 1860 and 1870 census for Hillsdale Co. Michigan. The 1860 reads as follows:

Name Age Birthplace
John 30 Ireland
Mary 36 Ireland
Ann 9 Ireland
Martha J. 6 Michigan
John H. 2 Michigan
On the 1860 census there is a box that the enumerator checked (pertaining to John and Mary) which
states, “Married within the year” I am not sure whether this is correct information or an error on the enumerators part.

The 1870 Census is as follows:
Name Age Birthplace
John        45 Ireland
Mary        45        Ireland
Anna        18        Ireland
Jennie        16        Michigan
John        12        Michigan

I was able to locate a census for 1880 in Prince George County, Virginia
The 1880 census reads as follows:
Name Age Birthplace
John         55        Scotland
Mary        56        Scotland
Jennie        25        Michigan
John H. 22        Michigan

After the 1880 census I am no longer able to find John and Mary Lumsden
I am able to find John H. Lumsden in the 1900 census living in Wilberton, Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation (Oklahoma).
John H. is my great grandfather, his son Lee Latimore is my grandfather.

I realize this is a lengthy message but I wanted to give as much information as I could for anyone who might be able to help me.

I am trying to find out where John Lumsden came from before living in Michigan in the 1860’s. Did he come from Ireland or Scotland?
Also, who his parents are. Scotland?
John H. Lumsden married a Sara Della Tignor but divorced after a few years and a few children. He was a coal minor. I am not able to find him after 1900.
I have recently been able to find a death index for a Jennie Lumsden Callard who died in Los Angeles, CA in 1945 which states she was born in Michigan. I have not verified if this is the Jennie listed on census.

Any information regarding this Lumsden line would be appreciated.
I really want to get off this dead end road!

Sincerely,
Lori Lumsden Smith
