I might be able to help a little on Nancy Susan Lumpkin and J. M. Loveless. They may have had four children; I have three listed:
Cynthia Ann Loveless
Mary Loveless
Nancy Loveless
(No more information on Cynthia or Nancy.)
Mary (b. 6 June 1857, d. 6 June 1914) married Samuel John Wesley Mask (b. 17 Dec 1854, d. 18 Apr 1924) in Newton County, GA. They had a son, A. B. Mask.I have no other info on him other than that he had two sons: Albert Samuel Mask and Charlie (Charles?) Mask (b. abt 1914).I had several conversations with Charlie and his wife, Virginia, some years ago. They were still living in Newton County at the time.
I have a little information on Loveless's Civil War days, some of which contradicts yours, in that he was not killed but captured in Tennessee and taken prisoner.
Ga. Archives, Company roster, p. 80: Enlisted May 1862, private, A Company (13 Cavalry) from "Bartow and other." John H. Morgan Brigade, West Army.Captured at Blountville, TN (no date).Bartow County, Elijah Lumpkin, letter of administrator: John M. Loveless, deceased intestate, dated 8 Jan 1866. Ga. Archives, 167/5. 139."Prisoners of War, Confederate . . . " (1912) died while prisoner at Fort Delaware, NJ; buried at Finn's Point, Salem, NJ, National Cemetery.
My grandfather was G. B. Smith, George's brother. If you have any information on Noah Richardson Smith's ancestors, I would most appreciate it.Also, info on Elijah Lumpkin would be appreciated. (I found him on the 1830 Oglethorpe County census but have not yet gotten around to searching farther back.)There was a famous 19th century Georgia governor named Lumpkin; someday I'll try to research family ties.
