ELIZ. (WATERS) STEEL MAR, JOHN LUMMUS ?
Can anyone show me the documentation which shows that John Lummus, the Rev War hero from SC, married someone named, Elizabeth (Waters) Steel?
I am wondering if such a named lady existed! I find the following reference in: "Abstracts of Old Ninety-six and Abbeville District Wills and Bonds" compiled by Willie Pauline Young and the Rev. Silas Emmitt Lucas, Jr. Reprint, Georgia Genealogical Reprints, 1969.
P. 444, Waters, Mary - Box 110, Pack 3202:
Will dated July 4, 1792 in 96 Dist. Sept. 14, 1798. Exrs: son, David Waters, Joseph Wardlaw. Wit: Chas. Davenport, Thos. Butler. Chn: David Watters, Elizabeth Lombes, Rachel Beel, Sarah Porter, Marthew Burne, Gennet Waters. "To my dtr. Elizabeth Lombes one bolt of lining cloth No. 1, her dtrs. Mary, Sarah Steel, to be divided between them. Give Gennett Waters lining cloth to be divided, giving one gown pattern of her part to Gennet Beel" Gr. son, Wm Steel.
From the will I read the following:
Mary Water's dau. Elizabeth Waters married a Lummus; Elizabeth's dau. Sarah Lummus married a Steel, and had son named William Steel.
Can it be that the name "Elizabeth (Waters) Steel" mistakenly originated from this will?
