How does it check out with your research?
God bless you.

Dear Margaret,
My sister, Ruth Parker called me today about our possible family connections.
She said that your grandmother was sister to our Grandmother Lula Pope.
I have a computer and have done some research in Ancestory files of the Lukers.
I still have several gaps but it seems to tie in several places with Indian ancestory also.
I understand from an article written by Pauline S. Miller, author of “Early History of Toms River and Dover Township” that mentions Mark Luker coming from England. This could be our link with England or Germany??
According to these sources several (….3 or 8?….Ron Luker mentions :George, John, Daniel, James, William, Thomas, Luke, and Mark?) Luker brothers came to America around 1685.
Mark came on a ship named FALCON with his two(?) brothers Thomas and William.
Two brothers, Mark and William Luker came to JN from England in 1685.A footnote states Mark could have been here in 1644 and settled in Shrewbury, NJ; Tom went to Goose Creek; William married alice ROOSE.
Somewhere I understood our original ancestors came from Alsais-Lorraine, a little country that once lay between Germany and France….and owned back and forth by each country..
Sources also say they came from England.I really cannot get that straight, maybe by-way-of England??

An any rate, some of the early Luker brothers settled in New England at Tom’s River New Jersey.I guess Old Tom Luker b.1665, was founder of Tom’s River, NJ.
One or more Luker boys married an Indian Princess..Delaware or Unami…(Cherokee?)
Thomas came from England with his parents,
married the Chief’s (Sachum) daughter, (Mary Ann).
They had a child named him Thomas.
He married the Chief’s (Sun Cloud) daughter, (ANN)
A lot of good information is from the OCEAN County Historical Society in New J.
You can also get information from the
MONMOUTH County Historical Society in NJ on the Lukers in this area.
You might get a friend to visit the website of the Mormanswww.familysearch.com on their computer. They have tons and tons of genealogical records in Salt Lake City.
There is a book “Luker’s American Legacy Volumn II and III? By Harold E. Luker.
Copies on file with L>D>S>Family History Center in Toms River NJ and Salt Lake City,
According to my family Bible records the following is the very briefhistory I have personally concerning Lula Pope Luker, sister to your grandmother.
I think this information came from my dad, John Henry Luker, Jr. (lived to be 96 yrs. Old)b.May 19, 1893, d.Aug.1,1989, in Jackson, Ala. Buried in Crestview, Fla. With my mother, Mary Etta Petty Luker. B. c.1899 near Deerland, Fla.d.1962, Crestview, Fla. Both are buried in Crestview, Fla.
Dad worked on the L&N RR.40 yrs. As carpenter.
They married Sept.23,1920, in Deerland, Okaloosa Co.Fla. when dad was 27…mom c.21
Mom and dad lived in Atmore, Selma, Pensacola and moved to Crestview in Dec.1929.
Nellie Ruth Luker Parker was #1 child, born in Pensacola, Fla.c.1926. Jahaza Marie was #2 and born in Milton, Fla;. Johnie Newton (#3, that’s me, Retired minister Church of Christ and Child Care Supervisor for 50 yrs.) was born in Crestview, July 27, 1930. I am now 70 and Ruth and I both live in Dallas, TX.
#4 was Glen Delano, retired Medical Doctor lives with a daughter in the NE.; Ronald Derwood #5, retired Postal Inspector has just returned to live in Crestview, Fla.
Mom and Dad were married 42 happy years and mom passed away Apr.23, 1962. Dad remarried Inez Jones, Dec.23,1962. They had a happy marriage for another 27 years. They lived in a trailer house on Uncle Fred Luker’s place in Atmore, Ala. For many years and finally moved the trailer to Jackson, Ala. Into Inez’s daughter’s yard for their remaining years. Mom Inez lived a few years after dad died and is buried in Jackson.(?)
John Henry Luker Jr. (my dad) was 5th or 6th child of John Henry Sr.b.c.1832 and Lula Pope. Two girls died in a few day of birth, and #3 Oney lived 5 yrs.
Fredie Augusta was the 4th child, born Jan.1888, in Atmore, Ala.
Aunt Jessie Grey was born 1895 after John Henry Jr. (my dad)born May 19, 1893.
The youngest ,Uncle William Lafayette was born Oct.1898.Uncle William went to WWI.Got home O.K.Dad did not since he had to care for his mother and crippled sister.
I’m not sure of the next information re.James W. Luker.b.1826 married to Rosana McClinton b.1834 This information from a John Luker on my computer Dated Jan.30,2000.ref. James W. Luker,genforum.genealogy.com/luker/messages/177 html

From the Clarke Co.,Bashi Methodist cemetary near where John Henry Luker lived.
Graves:
Luker, Bettie, wife of J.W.Luker,Jan23,1880—Feb.19,1906
Luker, John Wesley, July 29, 1872—Dec.31,1946
Luker, Walker, son of J.W.& Bettie W. Luker, May 12,1899—Oct.5,1917
Back to Lula POPE, wife of my grandfather, John Henry Luker, Sr. b.c.1863. son of James Wesley Luker b. Sept.26,1826, Clarke County, Ala.and Rose McClinton.
Grandma Roseanne’s mother was a Walker?)
Grandpa “JIM” as dad called him, was probably born in S.Carolina and homesteaded in Clark Co., giving each of his sons 33 acre parcels of land on his homestead.
At age 95, I (Johnie Newton Luker) visited the old homeplace with Dad (john Henry Luker Jr.)and made a tape of this trip.“Uncle Sid lived over there….Uncle Bill, over there…we lived over there….
”Dad left home when I was about 4 or 5 to go work with Uncle Bob in Ft. Worth in the water well business but was lost and we never heard from him again…..He may have been murdered or killed….note the tape notes of JNL…”
James Wesley’s children were: Sid, Bill, Sam (Meth. Preacher), Wesley, John Henry Sr (b.1863 lost Jan.1898 headed for Ft. Worth to work with Uncle Bob?), Callie Pruit and Aunt Prudie who never married. All children probably born in Clark Co in Morvin, and Bashi,Ala, near the Tom Bigby River, on Grandpa Jim’s homestead.
All I have on Grandmother Lula Pope is her probable birth.Dec.30, 1862, and brothers Floyd and Bob of Ft. Worth, Tx., Nellie Perry and Oney Alexander.I understand her father Pope had a second wife Peggy Morgan but I don’t have more than this.
My mother, Mary Etta Petty Luker, b.c.1899, was 6th of seven children: Lowe, Bud, Ida Jones, Jasper, Alma Clemmons, Mary Etta Luker; and Porter Petty. All lived close by and we visited them often on their farms. Bud lived in Port St. Joe, Fla and worked for the city.
Mom’s mother was Nettie Blackman Petty. She lived us in Crestview with us in her last years as an invalid (broken hip)I believe she died about 1940??)
I can’t remember granddad Petty or either grandma or granddad Luker. It may be that grandmother Lula Pope Luker visited us in Crestview, Fla, when I was just a little child. I seem to remember some horned toads she brought to show us from somewhere in Texas ….probably from Uncle Bob in Ft. Worth??I believe she died in Atmore while living with crippled Aunt Jessie Grey(about 1933 when I was about 3 yrs. Old…
Ruth seems to remember visiting at Aunt Grey’s house in Atmore one Christmas. She would have been about 7 or 8 yrs. Old at the time) She remembers Gma.Lula.
Leta Waddle Horine writes on the genealogy.com/luker/messages/141.html
“Hi Leta, Can you be specific on your Creed and Josiah? There are many of them and Josiah and HEPZIBETH OF DEWILL CO. are ours. The origin and probable Indian parent of Hepzibeth is very elusive. There are a couple of real good researchers working on this and slowly making progress. Take a look at the webhttp://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/texwomen.htmhttp://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/texwomen.htm“

Gail Luker Allred posted 5/20/00 on the Luker genealogy information. #219
“I think this will help on your question. In 1853 in Clarke Co., Ala: Hephzibah Luker was admx. Of Isaac Luker’s (estate) probate—with William Luker.William Luker and William T. Luker (Williams’s son), and Edmond Kelly were appraisers of the land warrants held by Isaac Luker-Clarke Co., AL.Land was bought by Williama Luker.I feel that Hephzibah was Isaac’s wife.On the Covington Co., Ala census:
Isaac Luker would have been born about 1760-70; 1 female born between 1770-80- this would be correct for the age of Hephzibah born in 1776
children; males 1 age 15/20 which would be born in 1810-1815; 1 male age 40/50 which would be born in 1780-90 (I don’t know who this would have been…any guesses?)I do remember finding a source, I believe a Georgia Genealogical magazine (maybe Georgia Wiregrass) that had Isaac and Hephzibah/s marriage.I have misplaced it at present.
I believe that Isaac, Joseph, and William Luker were brothers. They were in Georgia for awhile in the early 1800/s.
Joseph went to Tenn, Isaac went to SW Ala, while William may have gone to Clay County area of Alabama.I think the pieces fit.
I believe that William, Joshua, Jesse, and James were children of Isaac. Hephzibeth looker/Luker Taylor very well may have been their sister.Any thoughts?”

I have a pretty good tape of a trip Dad (JHLjr.)And I ( JNL) made to the old home place in Bashi when dad was about 95 yrs. Old. He tells of where each of the families lived around granddad. I would be happy to share this with anyone interested. Johnie Luker of Dallas, TX (972-494-2548), son of John Henry Luker Jr. born to John Henry Sr. and Lula Pope married c 1862 of Bashi in Clarke Co.ALA. [email protected]
God bless you. Hope this info is helpful.
I believe we may be cousin kin.
