Hi to all Luffs,
My grandfather was Arther Victor Luff of Dorking, Surrey, he married Florence May Morely and they had three children - Daphne (Derocher) now living in Alberta Canada, Audrey, last heard of in a nudist colony on the Isle of White and my father Brian Arther George Luff who lived in Kenya, Zambia and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) where he died in December 1976. My father married Joyce Charlton and I was born on 4th August, 1951, they were divorced two years later and I was brought up by my father. Dad married again to Nancy May Fulman and they had two sons - Stephen Gregory born 14th May 1961 and Jeffrey James born in October 1967/8 (I think).I was in contact with my brother Stephen until 1994 when he was living in Johannesburg South Africa. He had married Leah and had a daughter called Angeline. Letters stopped coming and I have no idea where he is now. Today is his 40th birthday and I would dearly love to be in contact again. I and my family - husband Denis and sons Gavin (21) and Martin (16) are now living in Grahamstown South Africa, after 26 years in Malawi and three years in Uganda. As far as I know my step mother and brother Jeff are living somewhere in Sussex - I would love to make contact with them as well.
I hope there are Luffs out there who can help me.
To answer the question where does the Luff name come from I always thought it came from the sailing term 'to luff a sail'. My grandfather told me that we also had French blood dating back to the exodus caused by the French revolution.
Regards Sharon Tweddle (Luff)
