Could this Jane Ross Ludwell be the Jane Ludwell in Hempstead Co., AR? The reason I'm asking is this: I found this info while doing a search on the large Smith/Merrill/Merrell family which migrated from Rowan Co., NC > Lincoln/Bedford Co., TN > Shelby Co., AL > Hempstead Co., Arkansas. They settled in at Hempstead/Howard Co., AR, in the 1850's. Jane Ross b. abt. 1790 was the dau of John Ross, Sr. and Rachel Smith; Rachel was the dau of James Smith b. 1730 and Clara/Chloe Anderson b. 1735. James and Clara had a grand daughter, Lucy Smith, who married William E. Merrill. William Merrill lived in Hempstead Co., AR in 1850's (listed in the 1860 Census as John Merrill). By then Lucy was dead and he had remarried Telitha Farrar. This is a long shot, but a lot of these related families originally from Rowan Co., NC, migrated together to this area of southwest Arkansas.
