'Miley' has been a family mystery for decades. I first ran across mention of him as a kid in 1960 or so when I ran across some letters my gr-aunt had written to her brother in France in 1919. In them she said 'our dearest brother Miley is fine'. Since Elizabeth & Joseph DUBREUIL had no other siblings, I had to ask aunt Elizabeth who this 'brother Miley' was. I was hurt when she studiously ignored me so I asked my mom if she knew who Miley was. Mom had heard him mentioned when she was young, but was met with the same silence when she asked about him. My first clue to Miley came a few years ago when a tintype came to light that had a caption identifying sisters Sophie (EGGERS) DUBREUIL & Annie (EGGERS) MARTENS--- and two boys, Joseph DUBREUIL & Miles LUDDEN. My guess on Miley's age is based on this tintype. He looks about 4 years older than Joseph b. 1896. Last week I found the DUBREUILs on the 1910 census. Hooray for enumerators who get creative. All of the Westchester Co, NY entries have m1, or m2, etc in the 'married' field. Sophie was on her second marriage, and though only 2 children were listed with them, she had 3 children who were all living. So now I'm 90% sure that Miley [Miles?, Emil? . .] was a child from Sophies first marriage. Sophie was b. in 1867 in Mount Vernon, Westchester Co, NY to German immigrant parents. She married [according to the 1910 census] Louis DUBREUIL in 1895. I haven't found the DUBREUILs on the 1900 census yet to see if Miley was living with him then. Has anyone seen a Miley LUDDEN in 1920? Or a LUDDEN/EGGERS marriage before 1892? Thanks, Jim Notify Administrator about this message?
