Ludden Family Genealogy Forum
I can only trace my Ludden ancestry back to my Grandfather Ernest Ludden who I am told was from Westport County Mayo, My father who died last year knew very little about his fathers origins because his dad died when my father was very young. So if you have any info about Luddens from County Mayo I would be intersted.
I still find it hard to believe that a family name common in the West of Ireland (beyond the pale) could have arrived there via the invading Norman French armies, perhaps they were Dutch or German mercenaries who somehow managed to escape the Norman strictures on mixing with the "natives" whom the Norman French regarded as savages. Edward 1st's army commanders routinely executed any soldiers caught fraternising with the Irish. I wonder if Father Paul Ludden is still around it would be interesting to establish contact with him, do you have any idea what part of Ireland he was from or was last known to be ministering in?
