Sorry, I don't have a George Davies Lucas in my tree.

You are probably quickly learning that Irish Genealogy is much more difficult than British genealogy. This all stems back to a fire in the public records office in the 1922 that destroyed all the pre-1901 census records.

Civil Registration of births, marriages and deaths began in England in 1837 but they did not start in Ireland until 1864. Only the indexes of the records before 1922 survived the fire, not the records themselves.

That all being said, I have had some good luck with this site:
http://www.brsgenealogy.com/

They have a pretty good collection of church baptismal and marriage records.

If you are lucky, you might be able to match up a record from that site with an LDS microfilm, so you can access the records in North America. If the LDS doesn't have the microfilm (this is my case with Hugh Lucas) -- then you may need to hire a researcher, or plan a vacation in Ireland to go to go to the public records office yourself.

Hugh Lucas is still at the top of my most-elusive-ancestor list. He's my Mum's paternal great grandfather.

I believe he was probably the son of John Lucas and Mary Murray, who were married at St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in the Shankill district of Belfast. I believe all the Catholic Lucas's in Belfast attended this same church in the 1830's, and I think they were probably all related to each other.  There were also a few Anglican Lucas's in Belfast in the 1830's, who attended St Anne's.

The Anglican Lucas's in Northern Ireland have deep roots in Co. Cavan and Co. Monaghan, with some ties to Castle Shane. I believe they came to Ireland from Lancashire.

The Catholic Lucas's in Belfast likely came from Co. Down, but I believe they may have earlier ties to Scotland. (i.e MacLucas)

John Lucas and Mary Murray are even more elusive than Hugh Lucas. I have no idea when or where they were born. Irish Church marriage records only list the bride and groom's name, and the date of marriage, and the witnesses.
