Luby Family - Thurles mid 1800s
I am at a dead end tracing my family. My grandfather was William J. Luby, who lived in Chicago (d. 1970) son of William Luby, born in Thurles, Tipperary in 1867.William the elder was a twin to Michael, and they were baptized in Thurles Feb 20, 1867.Margaret (Peggy) was born in 1869, baptized in Thurles July 2, 1869.Peggy's birth was recorded as Looby and as Luby.Their parents were Timothy Luby and Ellen Shanahan.Timothy and Ellen married in Thurles parish, Jan 28, 1866.Married by Fr. John Ryan.Witnesses were Bridget Murphy and William Ryan.Timothy was reported to be a carpenter.Don't know much about them other than we believe that they died young and the children were raised by the Christian Brothers (boys) and the Presentation convent (Peggy). We think that the kids were orphaned around 1872.Rumor is that Timothy died by falling into a well.We believe that Timothy was born around 1845 and that his parents were Michael Luby and Mary Fahey (or Fahy).Rumor that Timothy's father Michael was a physician, but this is unverified. We have a suspicion that Michael and Mary might have split up, but no records. We also believe that Mary came to the US and is buried in Lincoln Park cemetary in Chicago.I have yet to confirm this myself. The only other tidbit we have about Mary is that when she came to the US, that she had some connection to a Mrs. George Glasebrook (possibly aunt or sister). No other info on them or on if they had other children.Does anybody have any help? Thanks in advance. . . .
