Shree,
You blow me away! India?!!! I guess the Loya were REALLY dispersed!... I suppose North West India is in the direction of Europe, where us American Loya, including those in Quebec border with New York and Chihuahua border with Texas, all come from. You may find it interesting that in Afghanistan they use the word Loya Jirga, which is a meeting place. What is more interesting is that the basic meaning of Loya Jirga is the same as the Italian Loggia, which is sometimes modified to Loya as well, perhaps your Loya comes from the Afghanistani Loya Jirga which is somehow related to the Italian Loggia which is also modified to Loya, since that is your neck of the woods, around your neighborhood... or perhaps the Loia from Tuscany, from which us American Loya come from originally, made it all the way to Northwest India during its dispersion... one thing is for sure, which you reminded me of, the surname Loya is extremely ancient... hey! maybe Noah was a Loya!
