Hello,

My Great Grandfather was William Bernard Lowman. He fought in the Civil War. He was from Pittsburgh, PA. I always thought this line was of German descent. I have seen the name spelled Lohman. The 1870 census showed the spelling as Lawman. My mother told me that we have Scotch Irish in the family, but I'm not sure which line.

Good luck in your research,
Karen
