Could you share your source identifying Matthia as the father of the Richard Lowman who married Caroline Hammond? I have seen this Richard Lowman's death certificate on microfilm at the MD Hall of Records. It lists his date of birth as 2 Nov. 1834 and death as 27 June 1911. That document gives his father's name as John Lowman and his mother's name as Martha Hood.

There could be several explanations for the discrepancy. Given the prolific nature of the clan, there could be two identically-named cousins who are close enough in age to throw us off. The family member reporting Richard's death could have had bad information regarding his parentage.

It would be a godsend if one of our cousins could locate an old family Bible to clear up the mystery.
