Jim,
Andrew Lowe/Lowe is listed in the 1805 Knox County tax list in the area that was supposedly annexed to Roane about 1807. I am fairly sure this is Andrew. SAmuel C Lowe has a Knox county partner in later years, listed in his bankruptcy. Some have claimed Andrew's 2nd of 3 wives was from Knox county. Of course I don;t know if he really had 3 wives or not.
Some believe Andrew was married 3 times. The story about him marrying his servant girl Amy is fairly well known, I doubt the children she had were actually his - at his late age. Amy remarried Patrick Norris who served in the civil war and he divorsed her for infidelity.
In the 1790 Census, Frederick Co., MD Andrew Lowe is listed with 6 sons and 2 daughters - about 20 years back I thought this might be him too but have grave doubts these days.
The story James Lowe wrote about Andrew Lowe in 1905 for the Chronicle has problems, it is actually about 2 movements of the family - one from Maryland to Tennessee and the other is years later from Roane county to Blesoe County. I have a fair amount of supporting data for this. James simply confused the 2 stories or didn't know they were separate occaisons. Many of the Roane county residents moved away because of the strictness of the town fathers, lots of rules and an often used whipping post.
