Cornelius Lowe (1829-1895) of Virginia and Missouri
Cornelius Lowe (son of Vincent Lowe and Martha Seybert) was born in Washimgton County, Virginia, where he married in 1850 Martha Barker, daughter of Thomas D. and Permelia (Newton) Barker. His bride died of Typhoid fever after giving birth to an infant, and he went to Cole County, Missouri, where he married Martha Jane Russell, daughter of Joseph and Polly (Chiles) Russell, who was a cousin of his first wife. The family lived at various places in the Missouri Ozarks, and for a while in Kansas and Arkansas.
They had five children: Mary "Mollie" (Root); Joseph Marshall; Sara Nancy "Nannie" (Galyon, Davis); Abel Cornelius; and John William.
He fought for the Union in the Civil War, and in 1890 drew an invalid pension (for consumption - not service related). He succumbed to the disease in 1895 in Greene County Missouri, within months of marrying a third time, to Mary Jane Hoggatt, herself a three-time widow.
He appears to have descended from the well-connected Lowe family of Talbot County, Maryland.
I've posted some notes on his life and times at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~greenwolf/lowe/cornelius.htmhttp://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~greenwolf/lowe/cornelius.htm
