from NJ marriage records:
Juliet Lowe and Peter Stryker, Somerset, NJ 21 Jul 1779
LEANAH Lowe and William Coats, Hunterdon, NJ 13 Sep 1781
Elsewhere, the name ELANAH Lowe appears as wife of Peter Stryker (parents of my ancestor, Catherine Stryker Carpenter, b NJ 28 Aug 1785, d 09 Aug 1873, Adrian, MI.)
Is anyone else troubled by the possibility that these names and brides were confused, perhaps copying errors?
I live in California so a lookup in the original (handwritten?)NJ marriage records is challenging. If someone could do that, I would be most appreciative.
Tradition seems to be...Elanah Lowe's parents were either Cornelius and ? or Jan Low and Catherine Emans.
