Lovell to Love
Has anyone found where the Lovell name was shortened to Love when a line immegrated from Northern Ireland to America in the 1790's ?
My Love line was living in Ardstraw, County Tyrone, Ireland 1790's prior to sailing to America 1791. The Family of George Love and Mary Isabella Smith along with the family of Benjamin
Anderson and Nancy Love. They arrived in New York. From New York they traveled to Washington Co. Pa. Benjamin and Nancy bought a farm of two different tracts near Washington, Pa. totalling 100 acres on Brush Run at the Southwest corner of Hopewell Township for 75 pounds cash on January 8, 1791. The land was procured from the Government by Edward Anderson, possible a cousin.
Records show there were Loves and Andersons in Washington, Pa. prior to 1790. Perhaps this had something to do our ancestors settlement there.
