"Gen. LOVELAND, If You Please," was the headline in the San Francisco (CA) Call, 16 MAY 1910, p. 4, announcing that acting governor PORTER had appointed Harvey D. LOVELAND of San Francisco as "paymaster of the national guard of California. General LOVELAND has been a member of the governor's staff."
