"Ohio Penitentiary, Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 25.--Horrible and sickening were the scenes that marked the execution of Otis LOVELAND electrocuted in the death chair at the penitentiary early this morning for complicity with Lewis HARMAN and Miles WAHINGSFORD in the murder and robbery of George GEYER, an aged farmer, near Alton, Ohio, June 11, 1903. "Two shocks were administered. The first failed . . .The electrodes were readjusted. When the second shock was administered LOVELAND's body jerked and twisted. The straps had not been properly fastened. "During the last shock flame and smoke issued from the vicitim's head and right leg . . . the death chamber was filled with a strong odor of buring flesh. "LOVELAND was cool and perfectly self-possessed when he walked in the execution room . . . He was very pale, and was smoking a cigarette, which he tossed on the floor as he took his seat in the death chair at 12:03 o'clock. "LOVELAND said he had nothing to say except to thank all for their kindness."--The Washington (DC) Times, 25 NOV 1904, p. 2. Notify Administrator about this message?
