A John Lovejoy, brother to Elijah P. Lovejoy, moved from Alton, Illinois to Anamosa, Iowa after his brothers death. He first started a paper in Anamosa, but his heart was not in it, and went to farming around the Scotch Grove vicinity after marrying I believe a Sutherland lady, from one of the Scotch Presbyterian families who had come from Canada's Red River settlement using ox carts to get to Iowa. John became the choir master at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian church there. Later, he moved to Center Junction, Iowa and ran a store and became interested in telegraphy. As a result he was a station master for the railroad there and died at that location. During the Lincoln administration, while his brother Owen was still a senator from Illinois and a close friend to Lincoln, John was mad an envoy to Peru. His burial is in the Scotch Grove Presbyterian cemetery, just inside the main front gate to the left. I also have heard he had a sister who lived in the vicinity, I am still looking!
