David Lovejoy (b. 1801 in NY; parents b. MA) came to Chisago County, MN, in 1854 at the age of 53. With him came Leander Lovejoy (b. abt. 1833), age 21; and James Lovejoy and his wife Anna Hays Lovejoy (b. January 7, 1826, Pickaway County, OH, the daughter of Jacob and Rebecca Hays.)
In 1857 James Lovejoy died; burial unknown.
On July 3, 1859 Leander Lovejoy married Aurelia Parish (b. 1841 IL). The only issue known was their daughter, Viletta L. Lovejoy, born May 4, 1860.
In 1860 James Lovejoy's widow, Anna Hays Lovejoy, married William A. Sheldon in Amador Twnshp, Chisago County, witnessed by her brother- and sister-in-law, LD and Aurelia Lovejoy.
In 1861 Leander enlisted in the Civil War, and died in St. Louis, MO on May 25, 1862. Leander is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. At that time of his death in 1862 his daughter, Viletta, became a ward of Charles Martin. On November 6 of the same year, Aurelia Parish Lovejoy married Alexander Baldwin (b. 1841). On her marriage to Alex Baldwin, Aurelia Parish Lovejoy Baldwin requested guardianship of her daughter, Viletta, who was nine at the time. (This would put the marriage abt. 1869; but the 1865 census shows Alex, Aurelia, and Viletta.)
At the age of 62 in 1863, David Lovejoy married Catherine Baldwin Lovejoy (b. 1806/1812, in PA, daughter of John and Bitzy Baldwin), the wedding officiated by Justice Willoughby on December 20.
In 1880 Alexander and Aurelia Baldwin, both 41, were living in Amador with the following children Amanda, 11; Arthur, 9; Alfredy, 6, Oscar, 4; Almorella, 2.
In 1880 David and Catherine Lovejoy, 79 and 74 respectively, are living in Amador with SON- and DAUGHER-IN-LAW Cyrus (22) and Katie (15) LOGAN. ?????????
March 12, 1876 Viletta Loulla Lovejoy married James Adelbert Wilkes (b. June 28, 1855, McKean Cnty, PA). Their children were Rhoda (1877), Rollins (1880); Irvin (1886); Emeline Aurelia (1889); Robert (1890); Charles Hammel (1894)???; Clifford Hammel (1896)???; and Loyd (1899). All listed as Wilkes but for Charles and Clifford. Unless both boys blessed with the same middle name they were taken in/adopted, or workers.
At the age of 75, Catherine Baldwin Lovejoy died in 1887. Burial site unknown in Chisago County.
April 3, 1895 Viletta Loulla Lovejoy Wilkes dies in Kettle Falls, Pine, MN.
Anna Hays Lovejoy Sheldon died in 1896, at the age of 70. Burial site unknown.
About 1901 David Lovejoy died. His burial site is also unknown, but most likely he's buried in Pine County. It's been noted David lived to about 100, spending the last years of his life in Sturgeon Lake, WI [sic] with a granddaughter. Since only Viletta's been found as a grandchild and she died in Kettle Falls, Pine, and Sturgeon Lake, MN, is also in Pine, and Pine borders Chisago, I'm betting David is buried in Pine County, MN, though currently his place of burial is unknown.
William Sheldon passed away in 1914 and is buried in Sunrise Cemetery, Sunrise, Chisago. He did not wish to be buried where his wife was (I think this last was from one of the gen forums).
Emeline Aurelia Wilkes married George Brewer Phelan March 4, 1914, in Wallace, Shoshone, ID. They had three children, all Living Phelan.
James Adelbert Wilkes dies in Helena, MT, April 10, 1944.
David Lovejoy's great-grandaughter, Emeline Aurelia Wilkes Phelan, child of his only known granddaugher, Viletta Lovejoy Wilkes, daughter of Leander and Aurelia Parish Lovejoy Baldwin, died September 8, 1975 in Wallace, Shoshone, ID where she is buried.
If any one has any information on these people, it would be appreciated.
