I've been searching the roots of my family for about a year now. My GGG Grandparents were James and Sarah Knowles That married in Conecuh County, Alabama about 1821. Until a few weeks ago I had not found a reliable source for the maiden name of my GGG Grandmother Sarah. A few weeks ago I recieved a reply at the Knowles board here at Genforum from the daughter-in-law of a G Grandson of Robert Harrison Knowles which was born in 1848,and the last born child of James and Sarah Knowles. He had ask his daughter-in-law to try to find info on his GG Grandmother Sarah Love. She served as a good mediator and e-mailed me his telephone number. I had a long conversation with him on the phone this past Sunday and he told me it was handed down to him from his Grandmother that Sarah Love and her father lived on, or near the land James was homesteading and after the wife of James Knowles died Sarah helped him with his daily chores. He said when her father decided to move on to another area he traded the hand of Sarah to James for one milk cow, one calf and 18 pieces' of gold. I find that she must be the daughter of Samuel(Shem)Love that was found on the 1816 Monroe County head of household list. Sarah stated on the 1850 and1860 census that she was born in S.Carolina and Samuel Love was located in South Carolina at the time she would have been born(1804 to 1806). Also on the 1816 Monroe Head of Household list and only ten or so families away is Isaac Love which should be the son of Thomas love and Sally (house of in-cun-no-mar) Colbert of the Chickasaw Indian Tribe. If she was his daughter she would have been born in Alabama. Mister Gulley (G Grandson of Robert Harrison Knowles) said that Sarah prefered to be called Sally and that her father was Indian. Was Thomas and Samuel Love Brothers? Did she prefer to be called Sally because of Sally (house of in-cun-no-mar) Colbert That married Thomas Love? Or was that her middle name? If anyone has any info on this please reply or e-mail me.
