Elizabeth or Anna Louttit and arranged marriage

We have an old family story about an Elizabeth Louttit (we had the spelling as Luttet) who ran off from an arranged marriage with the family'e second gardener James MacAlpine. This was a Louttit from the Orkney Islands. She took a ship with James to the US and they married on board. Trouble is, we found James MacAlpine's wife and it seems to be an Anna or Annie M. MacAlpine. Any help with this story is appreciated. Story has the family in Orkney one of nobility that had a part of an island deeded them in return to service to the King. The family storyteller has been reliable on other matters, but we'd like some verification. Any help??
