Peter was the son of Nicholas & Marie (Hachar) Louis and was born near Bingen on the Rhine, Germany, Mar. 10, 1800. Anna was also born in the same location. They were married in 1827. Peter & Anna came to America in 1840, first landing in New York City on July 3, 1840, then proceeded to Fairfield County, Ohio. Peter stayed in Ohio for 14 year where Peter was a Cooper by trade. Anna died October 20, 1852 and was buried in Lancaster, Ohio. In 1854, Peter came to Wisconsin and settled in Keyesville. He died at the home of his son-in-law Anthony Rick on December 31, 1800 and was buried in St. Luke's Cemetery in Plain, Wisconsin. (His tombstone says he died December 31, 1870)

Peter & Anna had 3 children. All were born in Germany. Nicholas, Catherine and Anna Elizabeth.
