Looking for descendents of Hugh Louden and Nancy McGuire. Nancy was a daughter of Jesse McGuire. Would love to know more about my distant cousins.
Known children are James H Louden, Jesse Louden, Dicy Ann Louden, Elijah Louden, and Mary Jane Louden.
James married Jane Meek, Jesse married Mary (Styard) Stewart, Dicy Ann Louden married Barlow Meek, Elijah Louden married Nancy Moon, Mary Jane Louden married John W Williams.
Notes for Hugh Louden:
Hugh Louden first appeared on the Henry County, Kentucky tax rolls in 1817, indicating he was the head of a family or that he had arrived at the age of 21, he was still listed until 1824, and didn't appear again until 1837, although these records may not accurately show when Hugh and Nancy left, and then returned to Kentucky, they do provide a time frame for it. We do know that there was a Hugh Louden enumerated in the Ripley County, Indiana census in 1820 and 1830, It is thought that Nancy died and Hugh returned to Henry County with his family, the marriage records of Henry County, Kentucky show a marriage between a Hugh Louden or Lowden and Maria Duke on the 5th of April, 1836, and a Hugh Louden again appears on the tax rolls in 1837, if this is the same Hugh Lowden, it indicates that Hugh returned to Kentucky sometime between 1830 and early in 1836, later, there was another marriage of Hugh Lowden and Dulcina Hamilton, September 9, 1842 in Henry County, as there are no indications that there was another Hugh Louden, not even a son named Hugh, we have to accept the probability that these were all the same person.
1820 US census, Ripley County, Indiana, unknown twp. p. 76, roll M33
Hugh Louden: 2-males-under 5, 1 male-26-45,(Hugh) engaged in agriculcuture
1 female- 16-26 (Nancy)
1830 US census, Ripley County, Indiana, unknown twp, page 4, roll M19
Hugh Louden: 1 male-under 5, 3 males-10-15, 1 male 30-40 (Hugh)
1 female-under 5, 1 female-5-10, 1 female-60-70 (?)
It appears that Nancy has died and Hugh has a elderly housekeeper, or possibly his mother to care for the children. based on the age of the youngest children, it appears that Nancy probably died shortly before 1830.
