I read your Losee/Matthews query with great interest. I descend from the Losee family.
In my research, I have acquired documentation on Abraham Losee/Losie (married to Jane Matthews) whom I feel is connected to my Losee branch.
He along with Joseph Losee and James Losee (both of Ernestown, ON) all received military land grants (adjoining lots) for their service in the War of 1812 Lennox militia. The sale of Abraham's 100 acre lot states, he is the late Abraham Losie of Ernestown and the property was sold by his wife Jane and eldest son. From the top of my head, I believe Abraham and Jane were later living in Erin Twp., Ontario.
Could he be, yet another child of Abraham J. Losee (d. 1832 Ernestown) and Rhoda Clapp. Abraham J. Losee is a first cousin to William Losee, UE (first Methodist minister in Upper Canada). William as a refugee left New York and went to either NB or NS??. He later settled in the Bay of Quinte area (buried in Adolphustown). Could this be how the Matthews/Losee connection began?
Would be most interested in hearing from you. My direct email is email@example.com.
